A beautiful underground lake...!


This is a wonderful lake called Saint-Léonard. It is the largest natural underground lake in Europe. Located in the commune of Saint-Léonard, in the Swiss canton Vale.To the cave in which the lake is 300 meters and the lake is 260 m.

History 
The first visit to the lake in the spring of 1943 by two brave members of the Swiss Society of Speleology. Using a boat for crossing the water. 
The 1946 is an earthquake (magnitude 5.6 on the Richter scale centered on the region Rawil) cause additional cracks, particularly at the bottom of the lake, causing greater loss of water escaping from the cave . The cracks gradually closed. 
1949: The lake is open to the public.


Each year nearly 80,000 visitors visit the lake.
